From Russia to Latin America: Integration, Challenges, and Aspirations of Russian Post-2022 Emigrants
A research report on the survey conducted in Latin America in 2024
This OutRush report explores the characteristics, experiences, and motivations of Russian emigrants in Latin America, focusing primarily on those who left after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Based on responses from 938 participants, the report highlights that post-war emigrants primarily moved due to political reasons, safety concerns, and the threat of mobilization. Most emigrants chose Latin American countries due to political freedom, ease of residency, and naturalization opportunities.
Key findings include the balanced gender distribution among migrants, their high education levels, and significant entrepreneurial engagement. Although generally optimistic, emigrants face challenges such as bureaucratic barriers, economic instability, language difficulties, and security concerns. The report also notes strong social integration efforts, low discrimination levels, and ongoing interest in Russian politics, underscoring the emigrants' dual identities and aspirations for a politically improved homeland.
